Diverse Streets Initiative
DECOLONIZING NYC STREETS THROUGH THE ARTS (VOLUNTEER PROJECT)
PLANNING & COMMUNITY BUILDING
2020 - Present
Kyra is the founder/director of Diverse Streets Initiative, a multi community led collective, which aims to promote equity and propel the voices of people of color of all ages, orientation and creed by utilizing public spaces to: host conversations, therapeutic and cultural events; and exhibit art shows and works of BIPOC, LGBTQIA +, immigrants and allied artists, collectives and community organizations.
Together, her and co-founder Kim Chan spearhead this effort. The Diverse Streets Initiative hosted over eight public shows in three different neighborhoods - some of which were collaborative efforts. Their grassroots organization is the recipient of the Woodside On The Move Community Empowerment Award, and the Flushing Town Hall Community Arts Grant Award.
